Living off Insecurities

December 27, 2017

The familiar whining of I’ve gained weight, can’t fit my clothes, I’m so freaking fat.

The disgusting sight we see in the mirror.

Slave to the scale.

The common phenomenon of airbrushed and edited lifestyles.

Heartbreaking.

I have been on an endless diet since I can’t even remember. It’s been that long.

Society sold us the idea that how you physically look defines you. The more thin, the more fit, the more abs, the more beautiful.

So I see ugly when I look at the extra handles on my waist, the folds on my back, how I’m missing thigh gaps and my bloated face.

Everyone is obsessing on being cover girl pretty.

And it’s frustrating. And it sucks.

Because I love pizza and ice cream and steak and french fries and McDonald’s and being lazy in bed on weekends.

Now, I am not dissuading anyone not to work out or go on a diet and stay fit. Whatever works for you, go ahead. After all, it’s best to keep healthy.

But what I’m trying to say is we are more than just the size on a clothes rack. You are more than what you weigh. Do not let a few extra pounds erase all the good that has happened in your life. Once you see past the opinions you put on yourself based off on how you look, you’d get to grasp a grander picture of what you truly are.

That you could find acceptance and appreciation in so many places other than the unrealistic implicated norms that could cripple your confidence and self worth.

That you are important and incredible just by simply showing up to life.

Live.

Hey little Lady

August 29, 2014

Hey little lady,
Your eyes glimmering tears
In the wake of an uncertain morning.

Hey little lady,
Clad in your fears
Treading a life of misgiving.

You think you’ve gone mad,
Unsure of your wants
Living in days of misfortune.

The world is a complicated façade,
Of happy lies
Fading too soon.

Hey little lady,
Oh how well you do
The blank face that you wear.

A dark and deep tunnel
Of sinister thoughts,
Well hidden, all unaware.

Hey little lady,
Your world is but pretty,
Nothing is worthwhile.

It is all so bitter,
Of hate and of anger,
Not a hint of a smile.

Hey little lady,
Down on both knees
For an endless unanswered prayer.

Freeing a hopeless sigh
And not of relief,
Praying for someone to care.

Alone, all alone
is what you choose to know,
and no one will understand.

All the incredible chaos
Going through your head
That seem to never end.

Hey little lady,
Please see of the beauty,
Go open your eyes.

To sunshine and rainbows,
And flowers in bloom,
And a daydream of paradise.

Hey little lady,
Oh please do hang on,
Just a little bit longer.

All these in time
Will fade into memory,
A new life will uncover.

Your world will be beautiful
As you journey on,
All the ugly will someday be over.

Hey little lady,
please wait and see
what life may have for you…

What is Love?

February 9, 2014

What-is-love

Love is …

♥  a single white rose on a rainy day
♥  a movie with Tater’s major barbecue fries
♥  a box of Reese’s
♥  a book collection
♥  a peck on the cheek
♥  a hug from the back
♥  a foot massage
♥  a bowl of cerelac
♥  a slow dance
♥  a lunch date with your sister
♥  a music soundtrack
♥  a rock concert with your bestfriend

Love is …

♥  the racing heart and the sweat that breaks from a proposing man
♥  the tears that fall from the groom’s eyes when his bride enters the room
♥  the look of awe on a bride’s face when saying her vows
♥  the house they build and make into a home
♥  the waking hour, the afternoon sighs and the last goodnight
♥  the rise and fall of his every breath while watching him sleep
♥  the 9 months a mother carries her son in her womb
♥  the endurance of a torturous 36 hour labor
♥  the patience in looking after a baby who just recently had his shots
♥  the constant cooing of a 3 month old angel
♥  the ridiculous face a brother makes for a smile from the little one
♥  the proud look of a grandfather seeing his grandson score a goal

Love is…

♥  the bags under a mother’s eyes for staying up late to feed the baby
♥  the scar on her belly to bring out the life from within
♥  the pain a father feels from not seeing his newborn son
♥  the broken heart of a single mother
♥  the dreams she keeps pursuing in hopeless situations
♥  the faith she puts on an unseen God
♥  the silent prayers for a shattered soul
♥  the forgiveness for the hurt, selfishness, lies and betrayal
♥  the appreciation of the little things that matter
♥  the acceptance of a person despite the differences
♥  the sincere thank you during helpless moments
♥  the fingers locked and intertwined, not wanting to let go

ANGELES

July 23, 2013

Angeles.

IMG_4241[2]

The name of a Daughter.
The name of a Sister.
The name of an Aunt.
The name of a Mother.
The name of a Grandmother.
The name of a Great Grandmother.
The name of a Friend.
The name of God’s follower.
The name of an Angel.

To us grandchildren, she was our Lola Inday. An extraordinary woman who has dedicated her life to God and her family. I know for a fact that one can never say anything bad against her or recall any bad memory. That’s how extraordinary she was. She went to different heights just to ensure her family’s security and comfort. We can always run to Lola Inday and she will lend us a listening ear. She would share her wisdom about life and encourage us to be optimistic about it. She was always fair and kind and mindful of other people most especially her family. Family always came first. She was the heart and root of the family, she had the power to gather all of us in one place and bond over the most delicious food she could create. I could just go on and on and on on how beautiful this woman was to each and everyone of us. Everywhere she went, she touched lives. She was special. She was an inspiration. She was a blessing. She is our Angel.

July 19, 2013, after seven years, she is finally home.

July 22, 2013, we finally laid her to rest beside Lolo Piciong, her beloved Ding, as she had requested.

I close my eyes and try to form a complete picture of my beautiful abuelita. The way she talks, the color of her hair, her favorite outfit, the smell of her room, her enchanting smile and I realize I miss her.
She is a part of me, a part of us, a part of everyone whose life she’s touched.
She, the woman that is everything positive and strong.
She, the woman who taught us to be tender when we need to be a shoulder to cry on.
She, the woman that can take a stick of butter and a loaf of bread and turn it into a feast for God.
She, the woman who taught us to find beauty in everyone and everything and that judgment is unnecessary.

And it is comforting to know that she is always there.

Lola you are special
Your love knows no bounds
A room takes special warmth whenever you’re around
You believe we are beautiful and talented and wise
And choose to see the best in us through such loving eyes
Every day with you was precious
We are so grateful for the time
Of all the grandparents in the world
I’m thankful that you’re mine.
